det-mot (Detroit Automotive Museum) is a car museum shaped by more than machines, it’s shaped by the city that built them. Situated in Detroit, the project responds to the tangible and intangible context of its site: a legacy of movement, material, and making. Drawing from the city’s automotive past as well as its lesser-known traditions of shipbuilding and industrial craft, the design takes cues from textile block patterns, factory grids, and assembly lines, not to replicate them, but to reinterpret their rhythm and precision. det-mot becomes a civic anchor that frames the automobile not just as product, but as process—deeply tied to labor, identity, and place.
